Charleston’s consistently top-rated “Da Breakfuss Club Morning Show” is: Charleston native, Tessa Spencer. Tessa’s radio career spans almost 18 years with career stops in Greenville, SC as morning co-host at WJMZ FM; mid-day host at Nashville’s WQQK and now back home as morning co-host at WWWZ for the past 8 years. While radio has been her “main” thing, the radio vet has spent time in the US Army Reserves and even earned a spot as a cheerleader for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans before moving back to Charleston. Proud to say that she has the gift of gab, Tessa is the voice of the nationally syndicated Gospel Stellar Awards Show since 1996. Her voice can also be heard on Chicago television as the voice of WGN’s “Know Your Heritage” quiz show, and across the country on the nationally syndicated “Know Your Heritage Black College Quiz” and Black Enterprise Business Report.Baby J, who hails from Louisburg, NC, spent time on-air in the Raleigh/Durham radio markets working his way from intern to now hosting mornings in Charleston at Z93. While their careers span over 20-plus years between the two of them, Tessa and Baby J have been waking up the lowcountry now for almost 9 years and have garnered many accolades. Among them, a proclamation from Charleston Mayor Joe Riley officially making June 21st Tessa and Baby J Day, a Radio and Records 2007 Urban Show of The Year nomination, and were featured in BRE radio trade magazine as “Radio’s Driving Force”. The two have their first taste of national syndication as their weekend show, Da Bassment Party Weekend Countdown, has been picked up by the acclaimed ABC Radio Networks which is also home to syndicated radio hosts Tom Joyner, Michael Baisden, and Doug Banks. Tessa and Jay welcomed show producer Nate “Natty Heavy” Lopes to the team December 2005. Nate, a native of Providence, RI graduated from the University of Rhode Island and holds a degree in Communications. |
